Gold Smoke Makeup Step by Step!

Hey guys!

So a couple days ago I posted a few pics from a little practice photoshoot I did! I used this makeup look and really liked the way it turned out so thought I would use this makeup as my MOTD post today!

I didn't just want to write down the items I used, but I also wanted to kind of give a little tutorial!

I'm going to write out a few brief steps so you can recreate this look!

EYES:

Step 1: I always start with the eyes if I am doing a smokey eye and/or using colour because fallout is a gurantee! First you should use a long lasting primer to keep it lasting. Apply all over the lid and up to the brow, blend with your fingers. Then use a sticky base such as a paint pot. I used MAC paint pot in Painterly and as primer I used Urban Decay Primer Potion.

Step 2: Take your favourite crease brush and a completely CLEAN blending brush. I used Sigma brushes for this. The fluffy blending brush (don't know the number) and the Sigma Concealer F70 brush as my crease brush. I'm using the Naked 3 Palette. Start with your under brow highlight. Depending on how much of a highlight you like and how far in you like it, use any brush you like to apply Strange to under the brow bone. Start in the crease and right from the inner corner to the outer V put Nooner. Then on top of that put a little bit of Factory. Start from the middle of the crease and move to the outer, bring a little bit down into the outer V. Blend with your clean brush. Then take Darkside and put that on the outer V take it right into the lash line on the outer 3/4 and blend with your clean brush. Take a tiny bit of Blackheart and go over that, but pat because it is quite a dark colour! Then take your lid shade Trick and put it all over the lid but not into the crease, pack on the colour until it is very intense. Don't blend just yet. Take a clean crease brush (NOT your blending brush) and with a light hand use Mugshot to blend out ALL the colours! Then go back over the outer V with Darkside and Blackheart to intensify and just blend where you think needs to be blended.

Step 3: Apply top eyeliner. Use any type of eyeliner that you are comfortable using! I use a fine tip pen liner by Rimmel. It's the Scandal Eyes one. Make sure your eyeliner is very black and apply a thin-ish line of it from the inner to the outer. You can do a flick or a cat eye if you like but I don't because I don't like the way it looks on my eyeshape. It doesn't have to be perfect because we're putting quite big lashes on top anyway.

Step 4: Apply a very small amount of mascara on the top lashes and some on the bottom. Take a pencil liner brush, I used the Sigma pencil brush and take the Blackheart colour from the palette and sweep it under the waterline NOT on to about the middle right to the outer part of the eye so it connects with the darker colour on the top of the lid.

Step 5: Line the waterline with a dark intense black.

Step 6: Apply eyelashes (do this after you've completely finished though).

FACE:

Step 1: Apply Moisturizer and face primer. I used Nivea Daily Moisturizer. And Dior Skinflash Primer.

Step 2:  Apply Concealer and foundation. I used the Dior Skin Nude concealer and foundation. In shades 001 and 100.

Step 3: Apply bronzer as contour. Under the cheekbones, on the temples and under the chin. You can do it down the nose also but I don't because I don't like the way it looks. I used the Bourjous Chocolate Bronzer.

Step 4: Apply a blush to the apples of the cheeks and blend outwards to just above the contour part.
I used MAC mineralize blush in Dainty.

Step 5: Apply a highlight shade under the eye in a diagonal line. This sounds a lot more complicated then it is. Blend it into the blush and contour if you used a bit too much and blend the 3 colours together slightly. I used ELF studio blush, the complete white one (don't remember the name.)

LIPS:

Step 1: Lightly pat your lipstick colour of choice over your lips until satisfied with the intensity. Use more if you want a stronger colour or use less if you want a thinner layer. I used MAC Snob.

Step 2: Put a thin layer of lipgloss over the top. Rub your lips together. I used the YSL lipstain in 18.

And there you go!
That's the end result. Literally just play around with different colours and shades and just have fun with it!

Beauty Blogger TAG!

Hello!
So I was lucky enough to be tagged to do The Beauty Blogger Tag!

I was tagged by the amazing Confessions Of A Mixed Beauty to do this tag!

This tag was originally created by The Beau Bow.
Here are the official rules for the Beauty Blogger Tag:
  1. State the Tag was created by The Beau Bow
  2. Tag some more beauty blogger
  3. Title it with Beauty Blogger Tag
Here we go!

Name a beauty routine you rarely do:

Hmmm. This is a bit of a hard one! The only real beauty routine I don't do is apply moisturizer. I know that is really bad but I just don't like moisturizer! I think I might start moisturizing again now that the winter months are coming up.

Is washing your makeup brushes something you do regularly:

To be completely honest, not really! I used to but now I don't as I often can't find the time. I do believe you should wash brushes regularly though, I am just lazy with it! My brushes are definitely due a clean!

How long will you last with chipped nail varnish:

Again, being totally honest, until it falls off. I don't really care THAT much about nails and because of college I can no longer wear nail varnish at all.

How long do you put off buying.replacing a beauty or nail polish product even if you need it (i.e.-top coat, foundation, etc.)?

It depends what it is and how much I need it/used it before. Also the price plays an important factor in my decision. If it's pricey I will probably put it off a bit longer!

What is your worst beauty habit:

Not removing my makeup at night! It's really bad but I always seem to do it!

Name something not beauty related that you put off all the time:

Going to the gym! I took a membership but never find the time to go and I really want to start going back!

When going out somewhere, do you leave getting ready until the last minute or not?

Definitely! I know that getting ready takes me approximately 45 minutes so I always allow that much time before, which I technically count as the last minute.

Can you commit to spending bans:

NO! I love spending money as bad as it sounds/is! It's like a little addiction to me and I definitely am a spendaholic/shopaholic!

How organized are your makeup and nail polish collections?

I think they are organized quite well! I have a makeup collection video on my youtube channel so check that out if you're interested! Nail polish is stored on an acrylic stand in order of brand and colour so I think it's quite organized!

What is the longest time you’ve gone without writing a blog post?

4-5 months! I'm not great at blogging when I'm not motivated! :(

Thanks so much for reading! This was a lot of fun to do!

I tag:

And anyone else that wants to do it!

Thanks to the amazing Cheyenne for tagging me!

Hope you enjoyed!

Quick OOTD/FOTD- Cold Shoulder.

Hey guys!
Quick post today! It's an Outfit Of The Day (OOTD). So I'm going out for a nice dinner at a fairly expensive  restaurant. My family and I go there quite often so I know the dress code pretty well. It's a hotel so it's not too dressy but it's also smart. I went with black and white with silver (and a touch of rose gold as I couldn't resist) accessories. Sorry if this seems a little rush, I'm going out to said dinner in literally 5 minutes!!
I'm also posting about my makeup today!

The top is from Forever21 + it's cold shoulder which means it has cut outs in the sleeves. It's white and has this embellishment around the neck. Necklace is from a charity shop which I got for £1. It's really small and dainty so I liked it with this as it wasn't "too much".
I had to wear my watch as I need to tell the time so I paired it with a rose gold shamballa bracelet from Amazon. Watch is my ever trusted Michael Kors rose gold beautie! ;)

The ring is an elasticated one which I love and is from Primark.

Shoes are by No Doubt from Amazon. They're off white with Rose Gold studs and are AMAZING!

April Faves 2013!

April Favourites for 2013!

Batiste Dry Shampoo- Coconut & Exotic Tropical

Katie Price Perfume- Precious Love

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer- Oil Free

L'Oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes Excess- Black

China Glaze Nail Polish- Electrify

MAC Mineralize Blush- Dainty

MAC Amplified Lipstick- Impassioned

MAC 15 Pan Eyeshadow Palette:

Gesso, Vanilla, Ricepaper, Yoghurt, Hush, Sweet Lust, Shroom, Retrospect, Omega, All That Glitters, Honey Lust, Cork, Woodwinked, Romp, Mulch

Batiste Dry Shampoo- Coconut & Exotic Tropical- £2.99- Pharmacy.

Batiste Dry shampoo was quite a late April purchase. My mum bought it for me because she used up all of my old dry shampoo which was by Girlz Only. I was never really a huge fan of dry shampoo if I'm honest but this was a pleasant surprise. I had tried the minis of Batiste before and never really liked them. It leaves your hair silky, soft and FULL of volume. It's pretty big also and my mum paid £2.99 for 200ml from the pharmacy. I love this scent which is "Coconut & Exotic Tropical". I will definitely repurchase and am really considering getting more types. This is good for ALL hair types. Stay tuned for a review if I do pick up more.

Katie Price "Precious Love" Perfume- £14.01- CheapSmells.com (I got as gift, includes body lotion!)

I received this particular bottle of perfume from my little sister for my 18th birthday and it comes with a shimmering body lotion in a gift set. And I actually like (and use) the body lotion, which is rare for me! The bottle is really amazing and actually really classy. It's a mirrored, 3D, almost mishaped heart with a "diamond" on the top and a purple tint. It's 50ml, which will set you back around £14 (with the lotion) on cheapsmells.com. I've nearly used it all which is very rare for me as I have quite a few perfumes. That just proves how nice it is. As I am bad with scents here's an official description from cheapsmells:

"Precious Love is the new fragrance from Katie Price for 2010. Inspired by romance, Precious Love opens with top notes of Kaffir lime, dewy green leaves and drops of watery musk. The heart consists of dazzling blooms of jasmine and creamy white rose that blend with notes of fresh cotton, which lead the way to the base of palisander, amber, musk, vanilla and benzoin."

Really lovely summer scent plus it lasts a really long time!

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer- Oil Free- £28 (50ml)- John Lewis

This is pricey! Good but pricey. At £28.00 for 50ml it's quite steep...or would be if it wasn't an absolutely AMAZING product! I got oil free as I have quite oily skin. I can REALLY tell a difference when I use it under my foundation! Even though I really hate Laura Mercier face products, this is a godsend! It smells a bit funky (always did) and can feel a bit thick when you apply it, but if you wait about 30 seconds- 1 minute before applying foundation it really works and sinks in lovely. It makes my face soft and helps my face products glide on plus it makes them last SO much longer! One of my must haves for the summer! It's lasted me about 9-12 months so it's a great investment and is to me worth the price. It has practically all gone so please excuse the oddly shaped, squeezed tube! ;)

L'Oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes Excess- Black- £10.99- Boots

I love, love, love L'Oreal mascaras!! The original "Volume Million Lashes" was great but to me Excess is even better! I don't think there is a huge difference but I do prefer this one! I'm going to do a full review on this one and a few other mascaras in a few weeks time so stay tuned for that. :D

China Glaze Nail Polish- Electrify- £4.75- Amazon

I *believe* this particular polish was part of "The Hunger Games" collection for China Glaze but it's really pretty! The colour is a beautiful red and gold glitter and applies very nicely even though you need a good few coats. It lasts a good amount of time and doesn't chip too badly. I love this colour.

MAC Mineralize Blush- Dainty- £19- Debenhams

This blush by MAC is mineralized which I really like. I feel that it's not as heavy as other blushes but has a great colour payoff and gives a beautiful, natural look. The colour is Dainty which is a pretty basic pink. A light hand is advised as it's buildable but comes out quite strong with a heavy hand. Also I think that it has a bitter of shimmer to it but I'm not sure anymore.

MAC Lipstick- Amplified Finish- Impassioned- £14- Debenhams

This lipstick is by MAC and is of the Amplified formula. The Amplified formula is my second favourite, only behind Cremesheen. They are creamy but in my opinion often dry Matte. Though they are not really drying at all. The colour is very unique and hard to describe but is a very vivid pink with obvious red and orange undertones, sometimes looking red/coral. It's really pretty and at £14 is worth the money in my opinion. Definitely recommended.

MAC Pro Palette 15 Pan Eyeshadow Custom Palette- £11.50 (old) for empty palette. £10 for each eyeshadow pan.- Debenhams.

This is one of the old style 15 pans custom MAC palettes. Basically they are build your own. You just buy the empty palette holder and then can buy each seperate pan whenever you want in whatever shades you want. The palette cost me £11.50 from the MAC counter at Debenhams. And each individual eyeshadow pan cost between £9.50-£10 depending on when I bought them. I am always expanding my eyeshadow collection and constantly reorganizing my palettes. Some of the more popular colours in this palette are: Ricepaper, Omega, All That Glitters, Woodwinked, Cork, Romp and Mulch. Each one is quite different but a few of them are quite similar. They are all neutral shades with a few browns at the end. I use this palette every day without fail and they are really beautiful, blendable and just really nice. You can make quite a few different looks, especially when used with my "Smokey" MAC palette which I have just completed and will feature on here soon!

Well that's it guys. Hope you enjoyed. Please comment below letting me know what YOUR April Faves were and please also follow for more content.

New L'Oreal Caresse lipsticks review + YSL Comparison.

Hello all!
I know, I know! It's been a few days since I last posted and I did promise I would do this comparison post. I've had some camera issues (which will become apparent in the pictures) and didn't want to post to be honest because of the bad quality. I decided I would soldier on though so please excuse the bad quality pictures!

So L'Oreal has come out with these new lip products which have been compared a lot to the YSL lip products on youtube and on some blogs. As I own one of each of the original YSL products I thought I would do a comparison post.

But first I will just give my thoughts on the actual product without comparing them to the YSL lippies.

The packaging:
I really like the packaging for drugstore products. It looks quite sleek and isn't flimsy. The only thing I don't like is the see through lid. I HATE see through lids. It's redeeming factor is the top of the lip has a colour on it similar to the colour of the lipstick so it's not too bad. Overall its a B+ for L'Oreal with this packaging and I can see why they went for the infamous YSL gold colour look for their packaging!

The texture:

The texture is really nice and creamy. It glides on and is a pleasure to wear. It feels soft and glossy and to be honest feels (and unfortunately looks) like a lip butter. It's a nice texture and consistency and feels quite nourishing for the lips.

The colour payoff:

Unfortunately, the colour payoff isn't great for the lighter shade ( I only picked up 3, 2 of which were bright and 1 which was a  nude colour) 501, Nude Ingenue. It didn't make any difference to my lips and looked nothing more than a tinted lip balm or a very badly pigmented lip butter. However the two bright colours 07 Cheeky Magenta and 202 Impulsive Fuschia came out a bit better. There was definite pigmentation but they were quite sheer. Sheer yet buildable! You could definitely build them up with a couple of coats.

The lasting power:

They didn't last. At all. Nude Ingenue was gone within no more than 15 minutes and the other two didn't last longer than an hour. Not impressed.

Overall:

Overall, I was somewhat impressed with them as a product without the comparisons! The colours are beautiful in the tube but somewhat lose in transition to the lips. They don't last very long but they're good if I'm going out to the shop or somewhere where I won't be very long but want a lipstick. At £7.99 I don't really think they are worth it if I am deadly honest. That being said, I am not sad that I did buy them and think I will find some uses for them.

PICTURES AND SWATCHES:

Top to bottom- 501- Nude Ingenue, 07 Cheeky Magenta, 202 Impulsive Fuchsia.

Comparison to YSL Rogue Volupte lipstick.

The YSL Rogue Volupte lipstick is one of my favorite lipsticks around today. They are so creamy and are very nice to wear. The L'Oreal Caresse lipsticks definitely reminded me of them texture wise and even had the same scent. They are roughly the same size. The YSL lipstick is far more pigmented and lasts a lot longer. It's packaging is to die for and is to me the best lipstick packaging of any brand!
I would definitely say that the lipsticks are comparable, but YSL does beat the L'Oreal version by far. Coming in at £24 for the YSL Rouge Volupte shine version, it is definitely more affordable to buy the £7.99 L'Oreal version.
YSL definitely wins the comparison, the L'Oreal is definitely worth a try.

Try them for yourself and let me know down in the comments below.

YSL Rouge Volupte Shine Lipstick- £24 at boots.

Boots (Drugstore) Haul! ft. NEW Loreal lip products!

So today I went to boots and bought my sister a little present. (If you read my blog you might of seen that I bought her the Nicki Minaj perfume as a gift recently.) She takes photography for sixth form in school and lately the photos she's been taking for her exams have not been developing because of the school's bad chemicals and she has been really upset. So I decided I would buy her a present to cheer her up just in case they didn't come out this time. Luckily they did come out and so this was just a nice little surprise for her instead :)

So as boots were having a 3 for 2 on their Loreal makeup, I definitely took advantage! Loreal has come out with a couple new styles of lip products which I had heard a lot about on youtube. Apparently they are comparable to the YSL lip products. I have one of each of the original YSL products that these have been compared to (both the lipstick and the lipstain) and I will be doing a review with mine and my sister's thoughts on these products, comparing them to the YSL lip products. They had some other styles of lipstick that are like the YSL lipsticks in the plain tube (I'll be a LOT more detailed in my actual review!) but I didn't like any of the colours really so didn't get any of those.

Lipsticks- L'Oreal Rouge Caresse in shades
Cheeky Magenta
Lovely Rose
Metallic Coral.
Lipstains- L'Oreal Paris Glamshine stain splash in shades
Eve
Princess
Lolita.

Then I bought the Bourjous chocolate bronzer, which is something my sister and I have wanted forever!

I also bought a 3D Effect Lipgloss from Bourjous in Beige Elastic as I had it before and wanted a new one! (This one was for me!)

If you spent £12 or over on Bourjous you got a free blush and I chose this really cute one in Ashes of Roses.
I then gave her one of the new Lip Butters from Nivea in Vanilla and Macadamia. It smells absolutely beautiful and she said it was really soft.

So that is my haul.
Watch this space for the L'Oreal lip product reviews!

Perfume Review: Nicki Minaj: Pink Friday.

Hello and welcome to my very first blog post. This is my new blog "When Shadows Remain". I really wanted to start a blog because it looks like so much fun. I would really like to take a second to say hi and I hope you like the content on this blog :)

Onto the review.

I bought this perfume as both an impulse buy and a gift. It was a gift for my little sister but I bought it a bit randomly. As it is for my sister I probably won't end up wearing it as often but I will definitely be allowed to share it as we share quite a lot, if not all, of our perfumes. I really don't like most celebrity made perfumes as I feel they are all quite the same smelling and sometimes a bit too tryhard. That being said, I do actually own quite a few celebrity perfumes. This is definitely a surprise to me!

I really thought that it wouldn't smell very nice considering that it was a Nicki Minaj perfume. I really wasn't sure what to make of the scent. I bought this from "The Perfume Shop" kiosk at my local shopping centre and they didn't have any testers (boohoo perfume shop! You need to sort that out!) and they wouldn't let you return it if you had opened it. So to be honest I was rather skeptical. I had no idea about the smell and was just going by the packaging and most probably the fact that my sister was a Nicki Minaj fan!

The Bottle:
The bottle to me is absolutely beautiful. I really like the body and head design! I think it's really unique and fun. The only thing I don't like is that the 30ml bottle DIDN'T come with the head as the bottle cap! It only came with the 50ml!

The Fragrance:
It smells AMAZING! Very nice scent. It's very fruity and fresh and flowery and definitely more of a light day, summer scent!
Top notes include Boysenberry, Starfruit and Italian Mandarin. And there is definitely an undertone of flowery goodness.

The Packaging:
The box is typical "Celeb" perfume box. Of course it is PINK and has a big picture of Nicki Minaj on the back of the box. It's very much expected for this perfume.

Price: 30ml (smalll)- £23.50
50ml (bigger)- £28.50
(It came with a free laptop case which was actually really pretty but didn't actually fit my laptop)
I would overall rate this perfume a 4.5/5.
It also lasts pretty long! I would definitely recommend this perfume for the summer. Definitely check this one out!

So that concludes my review (and first blog post) hope you enjoyed it and I will try and improve!
